Olive oil vs. Corona

Grandma’s old home remedy is asking for your attention….

How can I become PCR-positive without symptoms and quickly become PCR-negative again in order to get the status of being “Recovered from Corona”? Hereafter I describe a self-experiment with legal means to question certain rumors about the informative value of the PCR test.

Summary of the first experiment:
On Wednesday, January 19th of 2022 at 5:00 p.m., I was tested to be PCR positive (Positive with a CT value of 33.5) and 12 hours later I was tested again – to be PCR negative. Thus, the PCR test, the gold standard of the pandemic, raises certain questions that I consider relevant in this self-experiment.

Phase 1: Where can I get Corona?
The rush hour in the public transportations of Hamburg seems to be a pretty good option to get Corona. I choose the route Jungfernstieg – Königstrasse. It goes through a tunnel the whole way and I can constantly change the direction of travel – sometimes towards Altona, then change trains and go back towards Hamburg Central Station. The FFP2 mask I am wearing has eight small holes more than the model that can be bought. So on January 19th, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (light rush hour), I’m in said train. I simply change the compartment and the direction of travel every now and then. After 30 minutes I notice that my mucous membranes become really dry (this can also be caused by wearing the mask).

Phase 2: PCR test center at the town hall (PCR-positive)
For the PCR test I chose the test center at the Rathausmarkt in Hamburg. I leave the S-Bahn (at 4:30 p.m.) to attend my appointment on the same day at 5 p.m. as a self-payer (€ 64.90) at the test center.

(36 hours later, however, I receive the results. I am PCR-positive with a CT value of 33.5, which means I am not contagious, but sufficient for the recovery status. But I do not know that at this point).

Phase 3: How do I get rid of Corona again?

Leaving test center, I immediately get out my bottle of olive oil and feel like Asterix with his magic potion. Then I gargle with the oil (grandma’s old home remedy) to – the way I see it – cover Corona and my mucous membrane with a layer of fat as quickly as possible and stop the spreading within the throat mucosa. This is about how I have been fighting alleged outbreaks of Corona over the past 2 years. Between the two PCR tests, I gargle three more times.

Phase 4: PCR test at the HBF (PCR negative).
On Thursday, January 20th of 2022 (11:00 a.m.), I visit the test center at Hamburg Central Station (PCR gargle test for € 49.99). This time I use the city bike as means of transportation.

(Reminder: At this point I don’t know that I tested positive for Corona the day before).

Phase 5: the results
Exactly 36 hours after the first Corona test on Wednesday, the first results are coming in. The result of Wednesday´s test was positive; the result of Thursday´s test was negative. Could I now leave quarantine because my second PCR test on Thursday was negative? A doctor friend of mine said that it is possible to get out of quarantine by “testing yourself free”. However, if you want the PCR test to be paid for, you can only do so after 7 days.

All five rapid tests that I had done every day during this week in the pharmacy were negative. I even did a rapid test immediately (20 minutes) after the first PCR test.

Days later:
As of Saturday (January 22nd), I am still feeling normal. I have no complaints. I am still waiting for the call from the health department, which seems to have a whole lot of work. I keep on gargling with oil and today (January 22nd) I take another PCR test just to be sure. As expected, the result was also negative. So I am now – according to the PCR test – for over 48 hours “Corona-free”.

The self-experiment:
Using olive oil, I believe I have become PCR negative. This is my private, measurable experience with Corona. Whether this is the rule, scientific nonsense, or just unthinkable for many responsible people, I couldn´t say.

I think our grandparents would certainly have scientifically tested grandma’s old home remedy in a hospital. They would have convinced the ethics council of a hospital that gargling with olive oil should at least be investigated. My posts are deleted by many young admins (Facebook). Their world is too modern and grandma’s solutions do not really fit in. Mr. Scholz, Dr. Tschentscher, Dr. Lauterbach and Prof. Drosten – how much money do I have to donate to which party so that my private question can be discussed in a two-hour meeting and thus receive official attention?

Notice:
Everyone should act on his or her own responsibility. Even if olive oil is not harmful for the body, I would like to point out explicitly that my contribution is in no way intended to call for imitation. This subjective experience report serves only as a basis for discussion and is my modest contribution to the diversity of opinion.

I have informed many people about my experiences since February 7th of 2022, including the Robert-Koch-Institute and the health department. We will see if any of those are willing to address this issue.

Update from February 9th of 2022
Just now my cheated proof of recovery has arrived, after I had informed the health department and the Robert-Koch-Institute 2 days ago that I am now PCR-positive (by influencing the result of the PCR-test). That’s what I call a prompt response from an authority!

In the future, I plan to perform a few more experiments of a similar nature with the rapid test and then repeat the experiment with the PCR test in early March under more stringent conditions. Anyone who wants to accompany me for documentation purposes is most welcome. I think until then everybody can become PCR-positive via public transportations if one wants to, but just without symptoms as long as one does something against the infection immediately. Again, the remedy of my choice will be gargling olive oil. Only this time I will try to become PCR negative again within 3 hours….

This article will be continued and complemented as soon as new experiences and results are available.
